Sea Cadet 1
30" x 36" x 2" oil on canvas, framed.
These are a set of two paintings (see Sea Cadet 2), designed to remain paired. They really should not be sold separately. These tall ships are used today to teach young sailors (Sea Cadets) the art of the sea. The style of painting has been copied from old manuscripts which discuss in detail how the sailors would paint their sea-chests during their many months at sea. A dozen coats of varnish and dark burled oak frames with hand carved inlay give the look of Officers' Ward Rooms and fine marine dignity. You just don't see modern paintings of this type.
